One strong and noble
One weak in need of helping
Make the difference

This is poetry on the fly…
Like sublimely spiraling
electric tornadoes
We were galactically invincible
action figures
Smiling
Pulsating
Guiding revolutionary dreams
Laughing at our destiny

How safe
for you
To sit there in your cyber tower
Doling out decrees
Which affect the destinies
Of your true and faithful subjects.
You rule the world
from your bedroom throne
And with the press of a key
Flash words across the screen
That rip the flesh off others.
Your light
shone so bright
It burned my skin
Until it blistered
and festered
And bled and oozed
with pain and delight
Then, the next key
was pressed
And I was left
in emptiness
Falling into the abyss
created by my own desire.

Haiku is a Japanese art form with its origins in the Zen Buddhist tradition of stripping things to their bare essence. In Zen, it is believed that if you can’t crystallize something down to stark simplicity, then you haven’t truly grasped it, nor can you experience the true reality of it. You are only experiencing a dream of it, a concept; an illusion. When I first discovered haiku, I found achieving this simplicity a bit difficult but, once you get it, it can be quite fun. The structure of a haiku is based on syllable count of each line and is always 5, 7, 5 for rows 1, 2 and 3 respectively. Here’s another example for ya.
Seashore
Sit by the seashore
Listen to the sounds she makes
Contemplate your life
